Now I do understand that three outfielders the Mets were depending on to fill out the roster are on the disabled list -- Ryan Church, Angel Pagan, and the potentially finished Moises Alou -- but for the love of all that is holy can Val Pascucci get a look over Endy Chavez? He's a decent pinch runner you say, well how about Marlon Anderson? He plays all over? Wait, what's Easley's job then? Why do you need Tatis if Wright and Nixon are playing everyday with Marlon and Endy sharing time?Me neither. The Mets have deemed Chavez and Anderson good bench guys who add flexibility to the roster, and it will take a lot more than numbers for them to change their minds about that.
The problem with the Mets is roster management. Simply there is no need for Anderson, Easley, and Tatis. Ideally the Mets will realize their redundancies when Pagan or Church return and rid themselves of Chavez and Anderson, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
And it's worse than RJ suggests. Not only do Chavez and Anderson play pretty much every day, but even Robinson Cancel and Abraham Nunez have received pinch-hitting appearances instead of Val Pascucci, Chris Aguila, and a million other players who are more worthy.
The Mets are simply not a well-run organization.

The entire bench is weak but Tatis is not good.
I still like Endy as a 5th OF/defensive replacement. Obviously, he should never be near the starting lineup on a *championship caliber* team, but I think he's a good piece to have if the rest of the bench is properly assembled.
i'm almost certainly alone on this, but i think endy chavez is a fine outfielder, and i was perfectly happy with his current contract and his ostensible status as moises alou's replacement this year. he's getting really unlucky in limited at-bats this year, but he's generally not a terrible hitter. he's 13 runs below average over 503 at bats for 2006-2008 (including his unlucky 123 this year). all the defensive metrics i've seen put him at about +30 runs per 150 games on defense over that time. even with a -1 adjustment for playing corner outfield, he's still about half a win above average over a full season. that's great for $2 million. and it's fine for a championship team that's got wright, reyes and beltran as well. chavez definitely has a place on this team; the fact that after giving endy 2 years they're still playing anderson, tatis, trot nixon, brady clark, angel pagan, etc. instead of him. although, in fairness, it's like 809th on the list of problems with this organization.
I'm on board with epoc & MP about Endy. He doesn't make him lunch money with the bat. However his elite fielding and above average baserunning make him a major league worthy player.
With this said I think his absymal #'s are partially the result of the ole small sample size. the computers had him at a respectable 334 OBP, 721 OBP
