Mets trade Milledge. For Brian Schneider and Ryan Church.
Wow. Just wow.
What a simply horrible trade.
Kazmir, Part 2.
Milledge for a league-average outfielder and a mediocre catcher.
Lastings will outperform Church next year.
Simply amazingly bad.
What the fuck? Can this be true?

i am in shock...
ReplyDeletei think i need to take the rest of the day off
this is almost worse then Kazmir...
ugh
looks like a real turd to me.
ReplyDeletethis could get ugly.
Guess what? Today's my birthday!
ReplyDeleteI just switched teams to the Nats. Where's a good Nats blog? Sorry.
ReplyDeleteCapitol Punishment is good. Check out their Milledge post.
ReplyDeleteOmar just sent you a gift wrapped box with his stool inside. Oh wait, I just got a package too. Its from the NY mets. The card thank me for putting down a deposit for Next year's season ticket plan. Hmm... this sure is a big box I wonder what's inside.
ReplyDeleteHappy B-Day John. We are all sorry this thing had to be done on your D-Day. Actually, we are all sorry this thing was ever done at all.

Great day.
ReplyDeletehappy birthday john. i hate this trade too, but it's not as bad as kazmir. it's terrible, but it's not that bad. i guess we nontender estrada now? wtf? i don't even know how to analyze this trade. i don't see any logic in there or reasonable plan with which this fits. i assume omar's still going to trade gomez, mulvey and whoever else beane wants for haren, too. as i said in a previous post, omar is a completely uncreative gm. he is blind to any sense of comparative wins gained for players; he can only see roster weaknesses and strengths, and he doesn't even assess those correctly. he mistakenly decided that we needed a catcher and dealt an OF for that catcher, getting another of back so that his OF back so that his roster didn't leave any holes. no thought to the fact that schneider doesn't add any wins over castro/estrada and church doesn't add any wins over milledge, and completely ignoring the fact that milledge is 22 effing years old and under team control for 5 more years. fucking bullshit.
ReplyDeletesorry to include so much analysis on your blog, john. i am just really pissed.
on a lighter note, this trade is interesting in light of the garza/young trade. in a matter of days, the landscape for trading in baseball is completely overhauled. not only did garza/young show the way for blockbuster prospect-for-prospect trades, but now the existing trend is completely reversed: multiple "proven veterans" for the single blue chip prospect. if i wasn't a mets fan, this would be a pretty exciting day for baseball.
What John said in the previous about nothing going coming out of the Collapse proved to be exactly right. With all the pressure Omar's under to win in 2008, he's willing to sacrifice the future to fill short-term needs.
ReplyDeletethey weren't short term needs, though, is the really befuddling part. we didn't need church - he's no better than milledge - and we didn't need schneider - he's no better than castro/estrada. he's sacrificing the future for nothing is what he's doing. i'm going crazy reading about 8 different blogs and it's insane how many people are trying to rationalize this deal. "milledge is overrated blah blah blah." who cares? minaya filled a need that didn't exist at the cost of a lot of potential. that is basically the definition of a horrible trade. this is a huge risk/no reward situation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, but I beat you to it.
ReplyDeletewell, we can try to look on the bright side. maybe ryan church isnt such a stupid fucking asshole after all.
ReplyDeleteIt was the black background of this blog that caused this to happen!
